Indesso was established near Purwokerto, Central Java, Indonesia in 1968 by Robert H. Gunawan. The company, which is known today as a major purveyor of fine chemicals, started by simply distilling clove leaf oil from hearty clove trees found in the fertile mountain area near Purwokerto. Over the years, Indesso grew from a small local company to a multi-million dollar enterprise which now offers a variety of natural extracts, essential oils, and aromatic chemicals using advanced extracting technologies.
In 1992 Indesso took a large step toward becoming a leader in the flavor and fragrance ingredient industry by producing Eugenol and its derivatives from clove leaf oil.
